How to choose hair straightener

What is hair straightener?

From the name, it surely functions to straighten the hair.  Apart from that, hair straightener has actually multiple function depending on the model.  As for me, I use hair straightener both to straightening and to curly my hair.

Many hair straighteners types available in the market to choose, from the very affordable prices to the very expensive ones, as well as from the least famous to the very famous brand.

Here are some tips when choosing hair straightener,

Hair texture

Check your hair texture. Do you have fine or thin hair or you have thick, dry, damaged or colored hair? Understanding your own hair texture allowing you to choose the most suitable hair straightener.

Check the straighteners heat setting, do they have one heat setting or multiple heat setting.  I would consider to choose the straightener with multiple heat setting, so I am able to adjust the heat depending on what styling I want and also to suit the hair texture.

Use a hair straightener with narrow plate (range from 1,5cm to 2,5cm wide) if you have short, thin and fine hair and with less heat.  If you have long or thick hair, then you can consider using a hair straightener with wider plate to cover more area of your hair and with more heat.

Shape of hair straightener

For a half round shape of hair straightener edge, you can use both for straightening and also to curly your hair, so this type of hair straightener shape has multi-function.  But you can also choose a flat shape of hair straightener edge to give you a maximum result of straight hair.

Ceramic or Titanium plated hair iron

Choose a titanium plate for thick hair since it will require more heat.  While for thin and fine hair, as well damaged hair that require extra treatment, choosing a ceramic plate is more suitable with less heat.

If you wish to spend range IDR 1million to IDR 1,5million, there are several interesting models offered by BaByliss brand.  But if your budget to spend range from IDR 500,000 to below IDR 1million, then several choices from Philips and Revlon can be considered.

Additionally, do not miss to apply vitamin oil or anti frizz spray before using hair straightener to protect your hair from the heat.  If you plan to use the hair straightener often like myself, do ensure to take a good care of your hair by applying conditioner when shampooing, using hair mask every 2 weeks and do a proper hair treatment in your favorite salon.
