The must-have basic make-up items

So many make-up items available in the market, we as women like to collect as many nice products as possible.

It is a never-ending collection, especially when there is a new product on trending being launched, then we, or at least I am curious to find out, do some sampling and then end up buying it.

For those who prefer to wear make-up on daily basis as part of their routine, then they might have many things to mix and match from different brands, choices of color, as well as type of make-up product itself.

But what happens to those rarely wear make-up or they will wear make-up on certain occasions only. Hence, it is important to have the basic make-up items as the minimum collection.

Here, I want to highlight the 10 must-have basic make-up items for you to have which also include exploring the benefits and how to use them.

1. Toner

Many brands offer good quality of toner.  You will need to check your skin type to ensure that the toner is suitable to your skin.  A sign of skin irritation or turning to reddish will be an alert that the product might not be for you.

Toner is applied after you wash your face clean.  This is to help removing any leftover dirt and also to give a good impact on the tightness of your pores if toner becomes you daily skincare routine.

How to apply toner? You can either wet a cotton pad with toner then apply to your entire face and neck or alternatively, you can also put a few drops of toner into the palms of your hands and press slowly into your face.

2. Face moisturizer

Face moisturizer is used after applying toner.  It is called moisturizer, so it means to moist your face to give soft and reduce the dryness.  Applying moisturizer to your face on routine basis will give positive impact into the appearance. Additionally, you can also apply face serum before that for more favorable result.

Do ensure to apply face moisturizer evenly to your face and neck as your daily routine habit, a minimum of every morning and evening or every time after your wash your face.

3. Make-up primer

Applying primer is the first step before face foundation.  Primer normally have a neutral shade with choices of clear gel or creamy and some with glowing effect.

Primer will create a smoother surface and help to avoid creasing look.  Because of the neutral shade, so it will blend into the foundation color you use.

4. Face foundation

Face foundation comes with many colors, from very light, light, neutral, yellowish, brownish, dark brown and many others.  Do choose the right color for your skin tone.  Do not rush when you are shopping around for face foundation.  The best thing is to try directly onto your face skin to see the impact on your look.

Depend on your preference and when to use, you can also choose between liquid foundation or stick foundation.  For more light and less weight appearance, liquid foundation can be an option, while for more heavy appearance, then you can use stick foundation.  When applying foundation onto your face, do not miss the neck area too.  Imagine if your skin face and neck have different color shade.

5. Concealer or color corrector

The same as foundation, concealer will come with many color selections to suit your face skin tone.  A concealer or color corrector will help to minimize or hide the visibility of dark circles, age spot or other small mark or fleck on your face skin.

Just apply a small amount of concealer or color corrector only on the required area to blend with face foundation and to avoid cakey looks.

6. Face powder

Wear face powder after applying foundation with enough amount, not too many to avoid looking cakey.  Use the correct color shade to give a natural and glowing result.

Face powder comes with loose or pressed powder depending on your preference.  When you use quite significant amount of face foundation, then loose powder will be more suitable since it is lighter.

But it is OK too if you prefer pressed powder since it is easier to carry around and to do the re-touch.  You can either use brush or sponge to apply pressed powder depending on how you want to expect as the end result.

7. Eyeshadow

A minimum of 3 eyeshadow colors are the must-have items so you can mix and match the colors or even blend the 2 or 3 colors together to create unique looks.

You can choose from cream eyeshadow, liquid eyeshadow, stick or crayon eyeshadow.  As for me, I would prefer to use cream or stick eyeshadow, not only it is easy to apply and blend but also quite handy to carry.

8. Mascara

Mascara is good to lengthen your eyelashes giving natural looks for daily activities. Having many colors to choose, I would consider to have black and brown colors as the basic items which are easy to match the eyeshadow color.

Mascara can give you a refreshed and glam look even with only soft and natural color of eyeshadows.  So, wear mascara even without eyeshadow to brighten your look.

9. Lipstick and its friends (lip balm, lip gloss, pencil lipstick)

Lipstick is definitely a must-have item with many choices of color to choose from natural, soft, dark to shocking colors.  Wearing lipstick will give a spark to your face even though only a shimmery color.

Use lip balm to moist your lips before applying lipstick then finish with lip gloss to give a glowing and sexy look.  Pencil lipstick can draw your lip shape to be more visible with dramatic effect.

10. Setting spray

The last must-have basic make-up item will be a setting spray that can be use to increase the lifespan of your make-up appearance.  This is a good item to have since it will save your time not to do re-touching your make-up too often especially if you have active activities.

For a special occasion, you must consider using a setting spray on your make-up to ensure the make-up will stay exactly as it is applied.

For any make-up products you will choose, do ensure that they are suitable to your skin type and skin color regardless the brand.  My make-up products may not be necessarily suitable for you. So, choose wisely and spend sufficient time to select the right products.
