It’s about mascara

How about talking about mascara, as one of the beauty products not-to-miss in your cosmetic collection.

Wearing mascara can highlight your eyes and powering the overall look although you only apply soft eyeshadow, simple light powder and shimmer lipstick on top of that. 

Mascara is used to darken, thicken and lengthen your eyelashes which can draw attention to your eyes and glam your look.

I would say that there are so many mascaras available in Indonesia from different well-known brand with variety of prices depending on how much you want to spend. 

Like other cosmetic product, choose mascara that is perfect for your eyes and does not create any unpleasant and uncomfortable effect, such as, allergic, itchy, irritation or red eyes.

Mascara comes with many colors to match your occasion. The most common color for daily use specially for work purposes will be black, grey, dark grey, brown and dark brown.  For party with unique theme, you can consider exploring other colors, such as, green, blue, yellow or even red.

There are many different types of mascaras and each will have its own purposes which will also depend on your preference.  Here, I want to explore 4 different types of mascaras that commonly used for you to consider.

Waterproof mascara

What is waterproof mascara? Waterproof mascara means resistant to water which allow you to cry, running under the rain as well as go for swimming without being afraid to have a smudge look.

Is it OK to wear waterproof mascara daily?  I would suggest to rotate applying waterproof mascara with regular mascara to protect your eyelashes.  Waterproof mascara tends to be a bit difficult to remove, therefore it is important that you use an oil-based eye make-up remover for easy cleaning.

Length extension mascara

Wearing a length extension mascara can create dramatic eyes look and definitely stand out amongst the crowd.  Choose a product that has an ability to lengthen your eyelashes with soft and clump free finished.

One of my favorite mascara is Lóreal False Lash Superstar Duo Mascara (not a waterproof one).  There is a 2-step to apply this mascara, start with the primer white color as the based to create longer look lashes, then apply the black color to finish.  The end result will give me super-long and soft eyelashes.

Curling effect mascara

Mascara with curling effect will have different type of brushes.  The brush will have a half moon shape allowing you to apply mascara from one edge to another edge carefully.

Another alternative is to use a curler for your eyelashes before applying mascara.  But I do not encourage you to use a curler too often.  At the end of the day, eyelashes are sensitive so you need to handle them with care and avoid damaging your lashes to cause them to fall out.

Volume effect mascara

If you want to have thick and fuller eyelashes look, then consider to pick mascara with volume effect.  Thick lashes mascara can create a smudge look if you are not careful when applying it.  Choose a thick bristle wand of mascara to give volume to your lashes.

Eyelashes need to rest too, so try not to wear mascara on daily basis, if possible, perhaps, have a day without make-up on one holiday. If you have no choice but to wear mascara every day, then make sure you will remove it properly using either an oil-base make-up remover or a baby oil.  Do not sleep without removing your mascara because it will make your eyes look tired and an overall exhausted image.

Mascara will also have the expired dates. One indication is the smell, if you smell something strong then it’s about time to put it in the trash. A good mascara can also nourish your eyelashes, so consider to invest on a good quality of mascara although a bit pricey but last longer and protect your eyelashes.
