Job interview is an important process as part of job hunting. There are many investments put onto job search, from effort, time, connection, networking, googling as well as cost involved, such as, internet, transportation, etc.
An interview invitation can be received from an official telephone call or a company email. Do read through the email in details or get the details information including the caller when receiving the telephone. Do not forget to also ask whom you will be interviewed by (name and position) so you will be well prepared too.
You must surely get excited when getting an interview invitation. But do not forget to put the schedule on your agenda, set a reminder prior to the scheduled date and have yourself well prepared.
Here are some tips to assist you to have a smooth interview process,
1. Do some research
Find out more about the company you are applying to. You can explore the company website to get more information as well as ask some people you know who are currently working in the company.
2. List some questions
It is always good to prepare a list of questions for an interview. Throwing some questions during an interview can be interpreted that you are showing an interest to the job. And ensure to only have several proper questions, not too many. You can save some questions for the next follow up interview.
3. Sufficient resting time
It is important to have enough sleep, at least one day prior to the scheduled interview day. This will definitely help you to stay focus and pay attention to the details. Having a tired-look during interview will give a bad impression.
4. Enough eat and drink
Eat sufficient good meals and drink healthy beverages prior to an interview. Empty stomach will influence your way of thinking and concentration.
5. Dress to impress
This does not mean you need to wear something expensive. Wear suitable clothes depending on what job you are applying to. Do you need to wear a proper business attire or a casual attire is acceptable? The most important things are clean, tidy, fresh, smell nice and comfortable.
6. Arrive early and be punctual
Check your timing how long to reach the venue including traffic condition. Whether you will travel using public or private transportation, you must manage the time properly and strongly avoid to arrive late. If you arrive earlier, it will allow you to freshen yourself and to read your note before interview begins.
7. Eye contact
Having consistent eye contact between the interviewee and the interviewer during the interview conversation is a good practice which will show that you are interested and paying attention.
8. Manage nervous
Nervous during an interview can be tolerated, but ensure not to impact your concentration. Take a deep breath and drink room temperature water before the interview start will help to calm down and ease the feeling. Don’t forget to say thank you after the interview end and shake hand to show an appreciation if allow.
