Visit Edinburgh when you travel to England

Photographer: Evi AzhaliOn my last trip to England couple years ago, I visited London, Birmingham and had also a chance to travel to Edinburgh.  Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, a beautiful city worth to explore when you travel to England.

It was in the month of November when I went to Edinburg and the weather was freezing cold, although not yet winter time.  Be sure to wear thick jacket or coat, warm gloves and hat and comfy warm boots, so you can enjoy the beautiful view and unforgettable atmosphere.

I travelled by train from Birmingham to Edinburgh and the journey time was approximately almost 5 hours.  I reached Edinburgh at lunch time, spent three days in the city and stayed at Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh West End.  Hotel is in a good location with a walk able trip to several Edinburgh’s attractions and also has a decent selection of warm and cold dishes at breakfast time.

After enough rest, I started to explore the city in this trip.  It was a combination between visiting some historical places and doing some shopping and this gives me enough inspiration to schedule another visit on my next trip.

Walk along Royal Mile street where you can find dozens of steep pedestrians which form the main road of Edinburgh Old Town.  Many unique shops and nice places alongside Royal Mile from souvenir shops, museums, casual restaurants and traditional pubs.

I remembered checking some souvenir shops and always found the famous shortbread cookies that I can taste for free. Of course, I ended up buying some boxes to take home afterwards.

You can start walking from the Palace of Holyroodhouse which is located at the foot of Royal Mile street to reach the worth visiting Edinburgh Castle at Royal Miles’ head. You will walk uphill to Edinburgh Castle, pretty tiring but don’t rush since you can always stop in many shops or café enjoying adorable souvenirs as well as order hot chocolate or coffee to stay warm.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Queen’s Scottish residence and the Edinburgh Castle was home for kings and queens for many eras. There are admission prices when you want to explore the places which the prices may vary.  Since time was quite limited on that occasion, I spent my time admiring the building architect, appreciate the panorama and take pleasure in the cool weather.

During my walking adventure, I also passed the Parliament Square West which is part of the Royal Mile which I was lucky to be able to see the Scots guard parade.  It was quite an experience.

On the way back to hotel, I couldn’t miss to stop for a while at The Usher Hall which is a concert hall beautifully built.  Took some pictures with my parents and sister to add into my album photo collection.
