It’s a time to enjoy some snacks. What are your favorite snacks? Are you a fan of fruits, smoothies, sweet beverages, biscuits, crackers, or peanuts or you rather choose other bite tiny meal?
Snacking time can become part of your cheating day happens once a week or even more often which might help you to reduce the stress.
When your mind is stuck and kind of blank of any ideas, I think it is a time to stop for a while relaxing your mind and body while munching your favorite snacks.
Peanuts are one of my favorite munchies safely stored in my glass jars or transparent containers.
If you like snacking peanuts, then there are many selections available in the market from local to imported items depending on your preference and how much money you wish to spend.
In my opinion, peanuts can be considered as healthy snacks since they are plant-based source of protein and also contain various of minerals and vitamins. Peanuts can be cooked in different ways which include roasting, frying or boiling. You can choose unsalted peanuts with no additional flavors, such as, spicy, caramel, salt, honey or even chocolate to be on the healthier side.
Here are some choices of peanuts to put on your next shopping list.
1. Indonesian garlic flavored peanuts
Indonesian garlic flavored peanuts are famously known as kacang bawang are available in the market all year round, but in tradition, this type of peanuts is usually available and consumed in most houses during Eid Fitr periods.
You can also find kacang bawang served in lounge of Star hotels to accompany your drinks. This is a good way of soft selling because you tend to order more drinks when you can’t stop munching peanuts.
2. Cashew nuts
Cashews are kidney-shaped nuts nicely eaten with unsalted roasting or frying method of cooking. You can also find caramel or honey glazed cashews but for me, they are just too sweet.
Cashews tend to be more expensive than peanuts. Based on my readings, this is because of the intensive processing required to get cashews ready to become consumable.
3. Almond nuts
This is another type of nuts good for snacking. My favorite is to choose unsalted and roasted almond, although the taste is a bit plain but tend to be drier and crunchier. Almond nuts are considered more expensive too as compared to peanuts.
Usually, I will put almond nuts as part of my shopping list when travelling overseas. Not only I can find various brand and nice packaging of almond nuts, but also the price seems to be friendlier.
Another thing is you can also find almond butter now in the market in Indonesia. You can check @atshakitchen Instagram (she is my sister) who makes almond butter fresh, natural, without sugar, salt and oil.
4. Bandung peanuts
Bandung peanuts or is also called as kacang Bandung are ground nuts cooked with flour and some ingredients, such as, egg, garlic, sugar and salt, then deep fried to have crisp flour kacang Bandung.
Kacang Bandung is a popular snack that you can find when visiting Bandung, a nice city located in West Java province of Indonesia. Kacang Bandung has savory and crunchy taste and also reasonable in price.
5. Macadamia nuts
Macadamia nuts are another favorite snack of mine that have subtle, butter-like flavor and soft texture. The shape is small, round and slightly bigger than chickpea nuts with yellowish white color.
Macadamia nuts tend to be expensive in price too because they are imported items as well as have slow harvesting process. A small package of macadamia nuts can cost me quite a bit but it is fine to spoil myself time to time.
So, those are my favorite peanuts for my snacking time. And, what’s your favorite? Choose what you like although a bit pricy, as long as it will make you happy.
Have a wonderful day.
