Living in an apartment or a house will have their pros and cons, and therefore, it really depends on your preference and comfort.
Apartment will usually become a choice to live when we are in a busy city and when accessibility become a concern.
In this writing, I am not going to talk about living in a house, but instead, I will explore on things to consider when choosing to live in an apartment.
Some of points might vary depending on the cities or countries but in general, I believe it will give overall perspective.
1. Safety & Security
Apartment lift will usually be provided with an access card allowing you to stop only in your dedicated floor. Apart from that, a 24-hour security will be on stand by and doing routine patrol including to each floor giving a sense of high safety feeling.
Well managed apartment will have and display the evacuation route sign and map in each floor including all the necessary fire tools and guidance.
2. Facilities
Do check what facilities are provided. In the apartment I currently reside, it is considered to have complete facilities, from swimming pool, jogging track, fitness center, mini market, laundry services and open space area for outdoor activities as well as spacious car parking area.
3. Building management
To know who the building management is, will provide advantages in the short and long run. Before choosing an apartment, you can do a reference check on the building management and most importantly in terms of providing the services, maintenance, safety and security.
4. Electricity capacity
Each unit of apartment is already provided with a sufficient electricity capacity depending on the size. Therefore, it might be difficult if you have any plan to add more capacity later in the future.
5. Location and accessibility
Apartment location will usually be situated in the easy access area. As for me, location becomes a major factor considering it is near to where I work and nearby shopping district, require less travelling time when I want to visit some of my favorite places.
6. Neighbors
Living in an apartment tends to be more individualism. There is less frequent interaction with your neighbors in the same floor. You might know who your neighbors are but there is no close communication established.
7. Services and maintenance
To keep the apartment well maintained in terms of updating the product and upgrading services will come with prices. This is called services and maintenance fee that is usually charge on monthly basis, quarterly basis or every semester depending on the procedures applied.
Services and maintenance fee will be calculated based on the apartment size, i.e., fee per square meter times the apartment size. This means that the bigger apartment, the more expensive services and maintenance fee is charged.
There will be extra expenses spent for services and maintenance when living in an apartment, but it is a trade off with easy access location, safety and security as well as complete facilities.
Thus, have you decided where to live now, an apartment or a house?
Wherever you live, do remember that the most important factors are happiness, safety, comfortable and you have a place called home.
Take care.
